It was a great week for fishing the Rainy River, despite lower water levels and dirty water. Both walleye and sturgeon anglers had good luck for both size and numbers. Pitching jigs with either plastics or shiners seemed to produce best for walleye anglers, with some people also having success trolling crank baits as well. For sturgeon anglers, getting just upstream of deeper holes in the river has been the best. Using 3-4 oz no roll sinkers, 8-15″ leader to a 4/0 circle hook with a glob of crawlers is the most popular way to fish for these dinosaurs.
